Topic: Let’s talk New Years… more specifically, resolutions and why they’re a great thing to make. In fact, it’s only natural for us to want to set goals at the start of a new year. Listen in to help set yourself up for a successful year.
I recently received a review (have you left one yet?) from a happy listener saying her favorite episodes were the ones with just little ole me chatting about life and fitness.
Since I’ve had so many back to back guests lately, I thought it was time to listen to her review and check in!
Hopefully, she’s not the only one that prefers these episodes, LOL.
Thanksgiving has come and gone, which means it’s officially the holidays!
Do you love the holidays or dread them?
To me, they’re magical. And because I love them so much, I had to start the show with a Turkey Day, or should I say Non Turkey Day review.
Yup, that’s right… my family decided to forgo a turkey and had a roast instead.
While delicious, it was VERY unThanksgiving like.
Luckily, my niece said it perfectly when she looked at my dad (her granddad) and said,
“It just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving without Turkey, Papaw!” Lainey, wise words.
We voted to never do that again!
Did we workout on Thanksgiving?
I’m sure it’s no surprise, but yup! Alex and I met that morning and did a great workout which we posted up on our Instagram!
I shared a few more details about our holiday kick off but let’s move to the meat of the chat…
New Year Goals: Why Make Them
If you hate resolutions, that’s fine. Personally, I love them and here’s why:
We’re naturally wired to prefer start dates. Starting something on a Monday, the 1st of the month or the start of a new year makes sense and helps drive motivation.
Yes, it’s just another day… but it’s a great day to reflect over the past year to decide if what you’re doing is working or if it’s time to do something else.
If you’re making resolutions, just make sure to make them doable.
- Start small. You can always make bigger goals. Start with something that makes you slightly uncomfortable but you know you can do it. Once you hit that goal, you can make a bigger one.
- You can change goals. They aren’t written in stone. Give your goals some real thought. Think about fitness, relationships, work, finances and choose just 1-3 goals at a time.
- Set actions goals for every big goal. If you want to lose 50 pounds, don’t stop there. That can feel so hard and impossible. Instead make 2 action goals to support it. Like working out 3 times a week or prepping your dinners every Sunday. Every big goal should have one or two action goals to make it more doable.
- Write them down and put your goals somewhere you can see them. My are written in the front of my journal. I see them every time I write my daily post.
19 In 19 Challenge
My friend, Brittany, gave me this idea and I love it.
I’ve encouraged all of my clients to do it to.
The idea is to write down 19 things you want to do or accomplish in 2019. Big and small.
They aren’t all goals and can be bucketlist items like go skydiving or get a tattoo.
I share all 19 in the podcast, so listen in for some great ideas.
I do mention a few great resources like Udemy for learning new skills or taking courses on EVERYTHING under the sun.
